Free Fusible Fibre Demonstration

Saturday 1st December 2007 from 10am
at the Fred Aldous shop, 37 Lever Street, Northern Quarter, Manchester, M1 1LW

If you call in our shop in the city centre of Manchester on Saturday 1st December you will have the opportunity to find out everything you need to know about fusible fibre.
Angelina & Chrystalina Fusible Fibres are a fairly new product that can be used in many crafts. Sarah, an expert from Craftynotions, will be on hand to show you how amazing and versitile fusible fibre is!
Sarah will also be showing you some great ideas for card making or gift tags.

Fusible Fibre is delicate and almost hair-like with good iridescent properties. The various colours can be sandwiched between two sheets of paper then ironed which fuses the strands together to make an amazingly iridescent sheet of paper. This can then be used in cardmaking scrapbooking, jewellery, textiles and more.

You can see one technique for using fusible fibre with friendly plastic on our website here:

The solid hardwood construction makes for a hard wearing piece of equipment that will last you for years to come. Fully articulated major joints allow you to move the manikin into numerous desirable positions.

All of the major joints in the body move freely along with the fingers and toes too!

These manikins are not too heavy to move around and they will always stand quietly in the corner without causing a fuss.

Felt can be made in more than one way. We now stock different felt making kits, one uses the needle punching method and the other uses a rolling technique. The rolling technique seems to be well suited to create large areas of felt by laying fibres on a felting net, damping them with warm water and rolling the felt to knit the fibres together. The needle punching method uses a special needle with barbs on the side. You place fibres on a foam block and stab the fibres repeatedly with the needle tool. This tool can be used for finer detailed felt work. Some of the members of staff are testing this needle punching kit and trying out these techniques. We’ll keep you informed of how they get on!We also stock assorted packs of the Merino Wool Tops, these are the fibres used in felt making and can also be used in spinning and weaving.

Fred Aldous Ltd Lends a Hand
On Thursday 15th March 2007 staff from Fred Aldous assisted in creating Manchester's largest ever hand print art exhibition in St Anne's Square.
Business people, shoppers and visitors to Manchester stamped their handprint using poster paint onto a huge canvas.
It was a fantastic event with lots of people joining in, even Sue Nicholls (star of Coronation Street) got her hands covered in paint.
This event was to draw attention to the 'Lend a Hand Ball' which took place on 21st April. The Lend a Hand Ball was to raise awareness of, and generate resources for two charities. These are the Together Trust and Central Manchester Women's Aid (CMWA).

(L to R) Coun Hackett, John McHugh, (Sinead's father,) Amber Sanchez of Fred Aldous, with Sinead.

Little girl, giant voucher
Fred Aldous Ltd is a sponsor of Manchester Art Gallery and gladly provided this £250 voucher for the winner of a prize draw held at the gallery.
Here's what the gallery had to say about this event:
"It's not every day that someone hands you a £250 voucher that's almost as big as you are.
But six-year-old Sinead McHugh was more than happy to accept the giant voucher at Manchester Art Gallery from the Executive Member for Culture and Leisure, Councillor Mark Hackett.
Sinead, of Norburn Road, Longsight, was the first winner of a new prize draw designed to attract more families to the art gallery in Manchester city centre. She can now spend the voucher on art materials at the Fred Aldous shop in Manchester. The old-established family firm is an art gallery sponsor.
Sinead, a pupil at Claremont Primary School in Moss Side, said: "I'm very happy. I like painting different things." Her dad, John, said: "Her teacher said she hoped Sinead would win because she would make good use of the prize."
Twenty-seven thousand children a year visit the art gallery with their schools. Since last September they have been handed vouchers for a goody bag to be redeemed when they return to the gallery with family members. They also get a chance to enter their names into a prize draw – and Sinead's was the very first name out of the hat."
